The average price paid for a new house in November 2005 was 271,016, while that paid for a second hand house was 280,786. The equivalent levels in November 2004 were 249,135 and 260,778. |
Noel Ahern, T.D., Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, announced today that the total number of house completions for 2005 at 80,957 units, up 5.2% on 2004.
The Minister is pleased to confirm there has been yet another year of record house building. "We are building more than double the amount of houses in 2005 than in 1997" the Minister announced. "In fact Ireland is now producing houses at a rate of 20 per 1,000 residents. That is a phenomenal level. It also indicates that the strong demand for housing is being met by a strong supply."
House completions in Dublin at 18,019 units are twice the level produced in 1995 and in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA Dublin City and County, Counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow) at 27,830 units up 124%. "I am very pleased that this achievement has been seen throughout the country, but in particular in the highly populated areas of Dublin and the Greater Dublin area" the Minister stated.
"The leading indicators of housing construction, namely New House Registrations for the year 2005 (62,284), and Residential Commencements "starts" (67,156 in the first ten months of 2005), and the availability of significant tracts of serviced zoned land, augers well for the continuation of a strong level of house building in the short to medium term" the Minister said.
The Minister also indicated that he expected considerable growth in the output of affordable housing through the various affordable housing schemes with in excess of 12,000 homes expected for delivery through these schemes in the period 2005 to 2007.
