According to provisional data from De Statis, the German Federal Statistical Office, Germany exported commodities to the value of €69.4 billion and imported commodities to the value of €58.2 billion in August 2006. German exports in August 2006 were 9.6% and imports were 12.5% above the respective August 2005 levels. Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, exports decreased by 0.1% and imports by 0.3% from July 2006.
The foreign trade balance showed a surplus of €11.2 billion in August 2006. In August 2005, the surplus had amounted to €11.6 billion. Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, the foreign trade balance recorded a surplus of €12.1 billion in August 2006.
According to provisional results of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the current account of the balance of payments showed a surplus of € 2.4 billion in August 2006, which included the balances of supplementary trade items (€ –1.5 billion), services (€ –5.7 billion), factor income (net) (€ +0.7 billion) and current transfers (€ –2.3 billion). In August 2005, the German current account showed a surplus of € 3.0 billion.
In August 2006, Germany exported commodities to the value of €42.3 billion to the Member States of the European Union, while it received commodities to the value of €35.4 billion from those countries. Compared with August 2005, dispatches to and arrivals from the EU countries increased by 11.5% and 13.3%, respectively. Commodities to the value of €27.4 billion (+8.8%) were dispatched to the €o area countries in August 2006, while the value of commodities received from those countries was €24.3 billion (+11.8%). Commodities to the value of €14.9 billion (+16.8%) were dispatched to EU countries not belonging to the euro area in August 2006, while the value of the commodities which arrived from those countries was €11.1 billion (+16.8%).
Germany exported commodities to the value of €27.1 billion to and imported commodities to the value of € 22.9 billion from countries outside the European Union (third countries) in August 2006. Compared with August 2005, exports to third countries rose by 6.9% and imports from those countries by 11.3%.
