The CSO said today that average weekly earnings in the Public Sector (excluding Health) rose by 4.8% in the year to June 2006. The index of average earnings, which excludes some effects of changes in employment composition, rose by 4.8% for the same period.
Employment up by 6,000
A total of 250,100 people were employed in the Public Sector (excluding Health) in June 2006 compared to 248,000 in June 2005.
Overall employment in the Public Sector was 354,900 in June 2006, an increase of 6,000 compared with June 2005. The total payroll in December 2000, was 301,500.
Employment in Education increased from 90,500 to 91,700 employment in the Health Sector increased from 100,900 to 104,800.
