The CSO reported today that employment in Irish private firms (with five or more persons engaged) in the construction industry decreased by 5.4% in November 2007 by comparison with November 2006.

The monthly employment index decreased from 105.4 in November 2006 to 99.7 in November 2007.

The final figure for October 2007 showed a decrease of 4.7% when compared with October 2006.

There were about 280,000 employed in the sector in the fourth quarter of 2006, which suggests that about 15,000 jobs have been lost.
