Notice of this Competition is published in the Official Journal of the EU with a closing date of 8 June, 2006. Advertisements will appear in Ireland’s national press as of 4 May 2006. Any citizen of Ireland, or of a current EU Member State, may apply provided that they have the requisite linguistic competence and educational qualifications. The Director of EPSO, Erik Halskov, said “The smooth and efficient running of this competition is a high priority for EPSO, and indeed for all EU institutions. We have had excellent co-operation from the Irish mission to the EU and from the national authorities with our preparation. EPSO would like to ask for the co-operation of the press and media in disseminating the information to all those who may be interested”. Full details, including all eligibility criteria, language requirements and application procedures, can be found in the Notice of Competition which is available on the EPSO web-site (http://europa.eu.int/epso). Application is exclusively on-line, via this web-site (paper applications will be accepted from candidates with disabilities), and is extremely simple and user friendly. As in most EPSO competitions, there will be three main stages in the selection procedures: pre-selection tests, written tests and oral examination. Each stage is eliminatory. It is crucial for the European Institutions to have a strong field of suitably qualified translators capable of responding to the challenge of working at the heart of Europe.
