Motorola CEO Ed Zander said Friday that the company will cut 3,500 jobs as it seeks to slash operating costs after a plunge in margins. Zander, speaking to analysts at a meeting in New York, said the plan will save the company about $400 million over two years. He did not give details on the cuts. The world's No. 2 handset manufacturer after Nokia, reported that fourth-quarter profits dived 48 percent despite record sales. Last week Motorola announced that an additional 30 jobs at its Mahon, Cork plant are to be eliminated, bringing its employment numbers there below 300 for the first time.
