The 5th annual list of The Best Companies to Work for in Ireland was announced on Wednesday evening by Tony Killeen, TD, Minister for Labour Affairs, at an awards event in Dublin.

Employees at  Airtricity, the wind-power company,  voted their workplace into top position on the list. Four other companies were honoured as "Best" in their size categories: Brightwater, eBay, Google Ireland Ltd. and Accenture.

Commenting on the achievement, Catherine Kelly, HR Director, Airtricity, said;” This award is a testament to our management’s belief in the HR process and its central role in the delivery of Airtricty’s international vision. We encourage innovation at all levels and have a strong recruitment policy that measures the potential employee against the company’s values with the belief that like minded people work better together.

“We reward excellence and facilitate flexible work practices in the pursuit of work life balance along with a host of social activities including netball, tag rugby, Thai Chi and on-site yoga”, she concluded

Five further awards were made, in recognition of "Outstanding Achievement" in areas considered vital for ‘Great Workplaces’, to Sigmar Recruitment; Premier Group; Microsoft Ireland Operations; Diageo Ireland Demand; and BDO Simpson Xavier.

The Best Companies study, compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute Ireland, sets out to identify and recognise the finest employers – and therefore the most satisfied workforces – in Ireland and throughout the European Union.

The Irish study is the largest annual labour force survey undertaken in this country. This year over 140 Irish organisations, with a total workforce of more than 90,000, were surveyed.
