Average Irish Industrial Earnings up 5.3% in year to December 2006; Industrial employment up by 2,900 in 2006

The CSO reported today that preliminary estimates of Irish Industrial Earnings for December 2006 show that the average weekly earnings of Industrial Workers in All Industries increased by 5.3% when compared with December 2005. Industrial hourly earnings rose by 5.3% while average hours worked remained unchanged for the same period.

Average weekly earnings of All Employees (Industrial, Clerical and Managerial) rose by 4.2% in the year to December 2006. This rise consists of increases of 5.3 % for Industrial Employees and 2.0% for Clerical and Managerial employees combined.

Industrial employment up by 2,900 in year to December 2006

Industrial employment was 241,500 in December 2006, an increase of 2,900 from December 2005. Between September 2006 and December 2006 there was a seasonally adjusted decrease
of 2,200 in industrial employment.
